This horse is a legendary figure that appears in the Cantar de mio Cid, written around the year 1200, and in later tradition. In history, it is said that Babieca was a horse so fast that it frightened the Moors when El Cid fell in battle and his troops tied him to Babieca's saddle. The horse galloped and the troops charged beside him, believing that the Cid had risen from the dead. After the Cid's death, Babieca was not ridden by anyone and died at 40, an unusual age for a horse. El Cid requested that Babieca be buried next to him and his wife Ximena in the Monastery of San Pedro de Cardeña, but his remains were removed and taken to the Cathedral of Burgos. However, the historical Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar did not have a horse named Babieca. This Collage has a real horse ball and rides in mountains and valleys for El Cid.
