This Baule standing male figure is from the Ivory Coast, West Africa, carved from a single piece of wood with an antique wooden box as a stable base. These Baule figures are significant in their culture, often representing spiritual spouses (Blolo Bla or Blolo Bian) or embodying a bush spirit (Asie Usu). An upright posture, detailed facial features, elaborate hairstyles, and traditional scarifications typically characterize them. Baule figures are used for ritualistic purposes and are believed to bring blessings or insights from the spirit world. Very rare to find an antique one from the 50s in very good condition, without any cracks or repairs.
