Unknown european artist The classic style is identified in faces and the European style composition itself in this extraordinary well preserved piece, not only because the colors that looks magnificently in the piece, also the use of Italian / French style pedestal vases containing roses fro mediterranean lands and especially the framed in cobalt color curtains. Artist and expert antiquarians locate the origin of this painting in Espania or Cohimbra in Portugal and possibly in a shrine of San Antonio. It is easy to ensure that the painting was made in Spain or Portugal and brought by Franciscans to Mexico to a specific altar/portal for adoration of San Antonio de Padua.
